Radio

a little about me

I've held an FCC Extra Class amateur radio license since 2025. I use digital modes like FT8 and WSPR on my two QRP Labs transceivers. Their low Rx and Tx current draw means I can transmit all day on a tiny Bioenno 9V / 3Ah battery, and I've reached Australia and Antarctica on less than 5 Watts.

Due to the unpleasantly hot and humid environment outdoors in Florida, I tend to run a thin wire through the house and put a 9:1 UNUN at the end to create a random wire antenna. I usually get less than 3 SWR on 6 through 30 meters. The main drawback is a very high noise floor.

I use a SharkRF M1KE for DStar and DMR. I mostly lurk and listen.

I'm a member of the Finnish amateur radio society SRAL (Suomen Radioamatööriliitto).
